A long weekend but a good one

It was quite a weekend.
First there was the bridge collapse. It just didn't seem right to go on a blog and bitch about the Twins in light of that tragedy, so TwinsTown stayed quiet.
Saturday I was at United Bowl III for work. I'm only marginally entertained by Storm games usually, but this was one of the best football games I've ever seen. It was just amazing. I couldn't believe how loud the Arena got. It was an incredible atmosphere. A lot of fun.
And Sunday, the Roadrunners were winning a pair of elimination games to land the final bid to the Class A state amateur baseball tournament.
We had lost seven of eight, and entered the day needing to win two to punch our ticket, which we did. We even beat the regular season league champion on their home field in the clincher. Cool.

So that's why it's been quiet here for a few days, and also why this entry will be short.
I'm just too damn tired. Exhausted. I know that the Twins are miraculously 4 1/2 games out of first. The Twins are still not that good of a team. But at the moment, neither are Cleveland or Detroit, so here we are.

Scott Baker. 3.13 ERA last nine starts. Told ya he'd be good.

Dude
The Twins finally sent Lew Ford down to the minors. I guess Gardy says he's going to Rochester to put good swings on the ball. Carmona absolutely owns the Twins. Although giving up one run and losing yesterday, in the two times he's faced the twins, I think he's given up a total of 8 hits and 1 run.

There is a good chance we'll see Lew Ford playing for or against the SF Canaries next year. And, with they way Punto has been swinging the bat, he may join him.

Punto is fricken terrible!!!

The guy on Fox TV Saturday talked about Punto's struggles at the plate this year, and that he was on an 0 for 20 skid. Why not just say he's batting .209 for the year, which basically means he's 20 for 100 this year.

Call of the day: Craig and Bob on Sportstalk will not acknowledge anything about the Twins being only 4.5 games back right now. All they will talk about is how wonderful the Storm is. (I think the Storm is gay BTW.)

Bob will give his daily Mark Ellis update.
Punto may be done playing according to what Terry Ryan told John Gordon.
--Also, after today's game, the Twins go to KC. You gotta like that.

What Baker has been able to do over his last few starts has been nice. However, he will not be able to maintain it. His stuff isn't good enough. At best, he'll be a 5.00 ERA guy.

Star Tribune is reporting that Punto will be the starting shortstop in tonight's game. Punto has been killing Indian's pitcher Paul Byrd with a whopping .238 average against him.

Baker's not going to be a long term fix in the rotation. He's too prone to leaving the ball up with his blazint 91 mph fastball. Rumor has it Piazza may be trying clear waivers right now. Not sure if it's with the Twins or Angels though.
